2009 melbourne design guide released
July 14, 2009
The 2009 Melbourne Design Guide, the one-stop guide to architecture, furniture and fashion design, jewellery, art and graphics will be launched on 15 July 2009.
This clever book was edited by design journalist and independent publisher Viviane Stappmanns of Alphabet Press and contains 450 pages of design intelligence researched and compiled with the help of Melbourne’s creative movers and shakers.
“The book functions on two levels, design professionals needing up-to-date industry information can rely on it, as can locals interested in a slightly left-field guide to the design culture of the city,” Viviane said.
The new Melbourne Design Guide is divided in two sections. The ‘Explore’ section is focused on Melbourne’s design destinations and the ‘Learn’ section profiles the talent chipping away in Melbourne’s design community.
The book has chapters on the built environment, object design – containing furniture, accessories, jewellery and ceramics – fashion design and art/communication design. A quirky section lists restaurants, bars and hotels, chosen as favourites by the designers featured in the book. The guide contains 60 hand-made maps and 346 images.
The publication was designed by Chase & Galley, one of Melbourne’s most interesting young design firms whose members are alumni of the Premier’s Design Award.
The Melbourne Design Guide can be viewed and ordered online for $40 (incl GST + postage) from www.melbournedesignguide.com and will also be sold through bookstores and design stores across Melbourne and Australia.
