Meet Ian - our newest member to the New Media team!
Ian already doing a sterling job on the team who have perhaps the most challenging role in keeping up with a constantly changing scene. Here's a little more about Ian:

Ian Whitmore
Consultant

When did you join the Artisan family?

Almost 2 weeks ago, working with Karen on the New Media team. My first Artisan activity was the summer party, WOW.

Describe your role and what a typical day would entail?
Like anyone, coffee is a must! Generally it would be hectic, meeting candidates, understanding their requirements, and advising them on the best plan of action. Then there is liaising with clients to see what skill sets they may need to deliver on projects.

How would you describe the culture at Artisan?
Helpful, fun and passionate

What do you enjoy most about working at Artisan?
It is always the people. The people I work with and the people I meet. I enjoy talking through people's work.

What is one skill that you’ve developed since working at Artisan?
How creative people work together, its great and loads of fun.

What were you doing prior to Artisan?
Working in IT recruitment for a large recruitment agency.

Tell us about your best and worst employment experience…
Best – my first role as a recruitment consultant back in the UK, where my boss at the time was very supportive. Doing casual bar work was fun too - but for completely different reasons.
Worst – Working for a car hire company. It was a burn and churn environment, never again!

What makes a great work environment?
Where everyone can work freely, collaborate and have a giggle at the same time.

What is the most common mistake you find businesses making when looking for new staff?
You can never put a price on talented individuals.

What makes a standout CV?
One that makes sense, its clear what the candidate does, and what they want to do in the future. Spelling mistakes and incorrect phone numbers are a big no-no.

What makes a successful interview?
Someone who is honest and who listens. Of course the ultimate goal is to find them work following the interview.

What achievements are you the most proud of?
Moving to Australia and loving it. Doing a sky dive in Byron was pretty awesome.

What do you find yourself doing in your spare time?
Attending live sporting events. I love Melbourne this time of year, Cricket, Tennis, F1 and the AFL is not far off. Go Saints!

What are your top 5 favourite websites?
www.bbc.co.uk/football
www.saintsfc.co.uk
www.youtube.com
www.lonelyplanet.com.au
www.theage.com.au

What makes you feel alive?
Having a good job where you can say you have done your best, having good friends to relax with over a beer or a glass of red, and being able to sit on my surfboard thinking: 'Australia, you got to love it!'

If you had to describe yourself in 50 words or less, you would say…
I am someone who is passionate about helping clients and candidates (and of course my work colleagues). I strongly believe in being honest to everyone you meet. I really enjoy winding down with friends ... and of course I'm a big soccer nut.
