Movember
Grow a Mo for a good cause.

Its not like we need any real excuse to celebrate the moustache. They’ve always been there, proudly standing in pride of place on the faces of men and boys hiding a multitude of sins – be it a baby face, an underbite or simply an inability to grow hair anywhere else. Whatever the reason the cause is clear. When November comes around you’d better be sporting one of these irrepressible facial quaffs to support men’s health issues, including prostate cancer and depression in men.
The idea for Movember was, like all good ideas, borne of a group of mates sinking a few pints at their local and talking about the lack of engaging information around men’s health issues, particularly in comparison to that of the girls. Let’s face it, when it comes to health and welfare men aren’t always the first to march themselves off to the doctors for a check-up. Them’s fighting words! But seriously, 1 in 8 men in Australia will experience depression in their lifetime and all men over the age of 50 are at risk of prostate cancer, so with stats like these its well worth putting yourself out there and becoming a walking billboard for one month of the year to raise awareness and money. And you won’t be alone! In the first year a mere 30 dedicated fellows chucked out their shaving kits in aid of the cause, but today that number has grown to 125,000! Its time you got in on the action!
Movember’s aim is to increase early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment as this will ultimately reduce the number of deaths from prostate cancer and suicide. Since its inception Movember’s ever growing supporters have raised over $60 million for health partners – The Prostate Council of Australia and Beyond Blue – the national depression initiative. If this isn’t enough of a cause or your priorities are out of wack then you can always consider the talking point that you will become.
Girls you can get involved too by either offering support and donation to a facially hirsuit gent in your life or by donating via the website - http://au.movember.com/about
