After graduating together with design diplomas from Monash University in 1986, Nick Morris and David Bowers created cult clothing label Umgawa in 1990. After selling the label in 1997, Morris became Art Director for Quicksilver before leaving to create his own design studio, Anyhow. He quickly established the studio as the home of surf and streetwear design. Dave Bowers has freelanced as a designer, illustrator and artist, working regularly with Mambo. Between them, they have produced art for Paul Frank, Stussy, Mossimo, Globe, Lee and St Lenny, among others. They recently started painting together on shared canvases under the pseudonym 'Doug Bartlett', a name inspired by footballing greats Doug Hawkins and Kevin Bartlett. Drawing inspiration from retro and modern pop culture they glean images and phrases from television, magazines, comics, movies and spam emails. Silk screen, stencils, oil stick and freehand are combined to produce vibrant, colourful and unexpected canvases.
